ReWilding at The Vine
Why is the grass so high at The Vine?
As you drive by the corner of Horton lane and CR48 in Southold, you will notice something out of the ordinary going on at The Vine at North Fork UMC. The grass is being allowed to grow with just a series of pathways cut through it. We are excited to share that this is the beginning of a multi-phase collaboration with ReWild Long Island. Our purpose is to be an economical and ecological steward of our property by reducing the use of water, fertilizer, and pesticides and allowing the drought resistant grass to grow to its natural height. At the same time, we will be supporting pollinators by planting native species that they rely on, and a vegetable garden to contribute fresh produce to the community. The pathways are there for everyone to enjoy walking through; eventually there will be places to sit, relax, and meditate.
